Mindfulness

Week 30

Mindfulness

Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.

Psalm 48:9

Growing up in a Karen Christian home, I did not feel comfortable practicing basic mindfulness meditation due to the belief that meditation is only practiced by other religions. Many Christians are comfortable with biblical meditation, but have doubts when it comes to mindfulness meditation. However, I felt more comfortable leading and doing mindfulness meditation when I became a hospital chaplain. I have learned that mindfulness is embracing God’s promise of abundant life—living life fully by being entirely present in each moment. Also, it is accepting our experience in each moment as a gift from God. Christian meditation is a way to commune with God, by focusing our thoughts on Scripture and on His presence with us. Both of them work together to help Christians draw near to God, experience His presence, meditate on His unfailing love, and have more awareness, peace, and joy in our daily lives.

Gracious God, please help us to meditate on your  unfailing love and to feel your presence in our daily lives,  in Jesus’ name, Amen.
