THE THIEF COMES TO STEAL, KILL, AND DESTROY
John 10:10 – “The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.” (WEB)
If you have been to a city in Burma called Mandalay, you might get the uneasy feeling of the environment of the car and bus stations. There are many deceptions there. Station thieves and criminals hang out there. They are not necessarily workers of the bus stations, but predators looking for prey. Scamming and misrepresenting bus fare is one of their conning tactics. Everyday they devise schemes to find targets to swindle. Their daily purpose is to lie and steal.
I myself fell into that trap once when I took students to India for study and made a transit in Mandalay. We got on a bus and thought they were going to take us to another station to continue our journey. We thought they would do their job well. But they did not take us to the bus station we were supposed to go to. They took us to a fake station they set up. They also lied about the departure time. We already paid them what they asked for and we thought they would not ask us for money again. We did not expect to have to pay anything for the place they took us. But, they demanded more money for taking a break and cleaning ourselves up at the place they took us. We did not know when we would have to leave as they did not tell us the right departure time. We had some time in our hands. They sent another car to take us to a visiting place and asked us to pay more and more money. We started arguing with them for deceiving us. They were extremely unhappy with us. They got mad and even wanted to kill us.
A similar lesson can be learned in our Christian lives. The biggest thief of all times, the father of lies, is always planning and scheming to deceive God’s children with the goals to steal, destroy, and kill them. Jesus knew his strategies very well, and said, “The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.” (John 10:10). Jesus came to give us life and much more. But the thief comes to only take from us. He wants to steal everything from you. He wants to steal your livelihood, your money, your property, your life plans, your character, your family, your faith, and most of all the eternal life our almighty everlasting God gives you through Jesus Christ. If you are not on guard, he will catch you, take everything from you, and totally destroy you.

REFLECT
The Bible is full of warnings about false teachers seeking to spread erroneous teaching in order make us go stray and abandon the real faith. Usually, he sows the seeds of doubts in our hearts. Slowly, you get trapped in his snare like a fly getting caught in the spider web and gradually reaches its destruction.
Are you aware of the seeds of fraud scattered by the devil to try to separate you from God?
How will you meditate on and follow Jesus’ word in order to safeguard God’s gift from the devil, who wants nothing but to lie, steal, and destroy you?
“I am coming quickly! Hold firmly that which you have, so that no one takes your crown.” (Revelation 3:11)
PRAYER FOR THE READER
Dear God, please bless Your children reading this devotional journal. Our Beloved Jesus Christ, just as you taught us to pray to our Heavenly Father to not be led into temptations but to be delivered from evil, we ask You to protect your children from the deceptions of the devil that seek to steal and destroy Your children. Grant your children wisdom and knowledge to discern the truth from the lies. Help them to hold onto what they have until Your return to earth. Please hear us in Your Name and mercy. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
