CONFICT IS THE HOLY GROUND
Exodus 3:5b – “…for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” (NIV)
Moses faced conflicts and encountered God in the flames of fire from the burning bush. Since then he became the chosen one to liberate his people from bondage. Conflict can be the holy ground from which we will be lifted up to a higher ground and be fruitful. On March 26, 2021, early in the morning, we traveled to Mae Sariang. We crossed to the Burma border the same day. On March 27th, which was the Myanmar Armed Forces Day, we journeyed to Dae Bu Noh village located in the jungle of Mutraw district. I will not forget the village Dae Bu Noh for the rest of my life. While we were there, my friends and I encountered death face to face. On the return road, we saw the entire valley filled with bomb smoke, but we did not witness any sign of victory in Christ in that Dae Bu Noh valley. We only witnessed horror, sad news, deaths, people running for life to the point that we were robbed of human dignity. We were exhausted both physically and mentally; we could not help one another; we fled together with the villages and the soldiers alike. We thanked God for escaping death but there were many civilians who got tragically killed from this catastrophe. On the night of 27th at 7 pm, we moved to the district office where WiFi was available because Thra Eh K’Ter was scheduled to give a lecture over Zoom in the Global Baptist Fellowship Bible training. Halfway through his lecture, we heard a very loud sound, so we ran out for safety. I was sitting in the front row during the lecture and had taken off my slippers. Hence, when I jumped out of the place, I forgot my slippers and ran on my bare feet. Each carrying our own laptop, we were running after the Karen soldiers and reached somewhere deep in the jungle. Knowing the airstrike was ongoing we crouched down immediately. I tripped on a tree stump and fell on my stomach to the ground. I also saw the flashing light from the fighter plane. We ran back to the house where we were staying and jumped into a big trench. You could look up and see the plane that flew and dropped the bombs. When things seemed to calm down for a moment, we decided to go back to look for a computer. Once we got out and started going, the airplane came back so the Karen soldiers asked us to come back into the trench. Just as we got into the trench, a bomb exploded very close to us. In fact, the bomb exploded where we were going to look for a computer. Although we were in the trench, the air from the speed of the bomb hit us and the dirt from the explosion covered us. We were too close to the target area so the soldiers took us outside the village and we rested on a hillside. There was no safe place to hide. When the night got deeper and the planes returned to their base, we reunited with Dr. Alwyn who was looking for us. It was a joyful reunion. But soon, the plane came back and dropped more bombs. We could see the flashes of light as the bombs exploded in the village resembling lightning strikes. The roaring rumbles of the blasts sounded loudly with echoes. I thought anxiously, “How many got hit? Where did the bombs hit? Did they hit the children, women, villagers?” We also worried for ourselves and felt enervated with concerns for the villagers. The night of March 27, 2021 was the longest night for me. That was the night when Jesus Christ miraculously delivered us from death. How I really want to conclude this testimony is to say, “Thank you, Lord.”

REFLECT
When God wants to use you for a higher purpose, you will have to go through tests. I came back from the valley of death and started two new programs: SPHERE Master of Arts in Socio-Political Science program and Virtual and online Master of Ministry program. By God’s grace, our Hope Theological Seminary has received the accreditation from International Association for Theological Accreditation on September 8, 2021; our Kawthoolei Karen Baptist Churches (KKBC) has been accepted as full member of Asia Pacific Baptist Federation on August 20, 2021 and as a member of Baptist World Alliance on October 21, 2021. I had to go through a series of tests (some of them I passed with very low grades) before all these breakthroughs could happen.
Are you in a conflict zone? How can you remind yourself that God wants to do amazing things in your life? Conflict is holy ground whereby we are pushed out of our comfort zones. Conflict in life can catapult us to a new plane of existence where we see more of His amazing grace.

Dear God, please bless Your children reading this devotional journal. When they have to face conflicts in life, please let Your presence be known to them and help them to see hurdles and challenges in their lives as holy ground and opportunities whereby they can experience more of your grace, blessings and your holiness.
