Week 10
GOD’S PLANS FOR US ARE BEYOND ANYTHING WE CAN THINK OF OR IMAGINE
Isaiah 55:8-9 – ““For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,” says Yahweh. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (WEB)
My marriage began as a non-Christian. I tried reading the Bible when I was young, but it didn’t make sense to me. Nevertheless, I went to many churches with different friends until I graduated from high school. Then I took a religion class in college. I was seeking the Lord, but never found Him, so I thought getting married would fulfill me, but it didn’t. So I thought having children would fulfill me, but that didn’t either. After having three children, a close high school friend I kept in touch with, asked me what I thought of Jesus. She had just given her life to Him and was baptized. I told her I thought He was a good man, but not the Son of God, so she told me the Bible study she was going to was for me. I decided a few days later that I needed to go and see for myself.
They were studying the Old Testament with all the prophecies of Jesus’ coming birth. We studied Matthew in the New Testament after summer break. When I read in the very first chapter that all those prophecies came true, I totally surrendered my life to Jesus! My husband was not happy after that and left two years later. I was thinking my life was ruined and God could never use me for His glory again. I thought of suicide, but the Lord is faithful and brought two friends to my house at the same time. They saved me from ending my life and believing in the lies of our enemy.
I was finally fulfilled and loved Jesus, so I followed and served Him with all my heart. Fourteen years later my pastor challenged us with Isaiah 6:8, “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” I told the Lord I would go whenever He wanted me to go and do whatever He wanted me to do. I was thinking somewhere in America, but He called me to the mission field on the other side of the earth! I had never thought of being a missionary and had never heard of Thailand, Burma or the Karen people. I had no idea where they were, or what He wanted me to do, but God knew.
Six months later He sent me on an Exposure Trip through my church and I not only met the Karen people, but I loved them. They asked me to come back and teach English. I’d never taught before and thought I’d be there only six months, but that was 37 years ago and I’m still here.

Do you ever think God cannot use your life? Do you ever think you are not wise enough, worthy enough, or too old or too young for God to use your life for Him?
Are you willing to surrender and let Him use you anyway?
“For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble; but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world that he might put to shame the things that are strong. God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that don’t exist, that he might bring to nothing the things that exist, that no flesh should boast before God.” (1Corinthians 1:26-29)
PRAYER FOR THE READER
Dear God, please bless Your children reading this devotional journal. I pray for God’s will for Your children today. We know that You do not use the standard of this world in choosing who to use for Your Kingdom. Please let Your children know Your plan and purpose for them is greater than they could ever imagine. Please remove any doubts, obstructions, or struggles that keep them from serving You, Your church, and Your children. May You increase and we decrease. Through our weaknesses, may You be glorified. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
