GOD’S TIME
2 Peter 3:8 – “But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. ” (WEB)
It was in the summer of 1985. The five of us were instructed to go to the villages and make arrangements for food supplies for our soldiers just like we did in the previous years. We took some food with us on our trip.
Half way on our journey, we became aware that the enemy was active nearby so we paused. We ran out of food while waiting. The time coincided with the mangoes ripening and turning yellow. We picked the mangoes and ate them as we ran out of food. I took a bunch and put them by my side. I ate one after another before falling asleep.
Around midnight, I drifted into unconsciousness. During that time, I saw my cousin and my friend, who gave their lives for our country and people just two months ago. They were staying in a monastery not too far from the place they died. There appeared to be a lake between them and me. I told them I was coming to them. They told me I could not come. I think the conversation took only three seconds. Then, I regained consciousness on this side.
Once I was awake, I found that my hands were tied with two ropes and so were my feet. I asked my friends why they tied me up with four ropes. They said — “You had all these mangoes next to you and you ate them all. Around midnight, you woke up and were disoriented. You ran away in delirium. We had to chase you in the dark. We had to tie you up because you were frenzied and your hands and feet were moving erratically. We thought we would just bury you if you were unconscious for more than three days. You were out for three nights and three days.” I thought to myself, “Three days and three nights? Strange! I talked to my cousin and friend only for three seconds on the other side.
I am reminded of the scripture found in 2 Peter 3:8, “But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” God has His own time and works according to His timetable. Sometimes it is hard to understand and accept God’s timing. I am grateful God is keeping me alive to serve Him. We worship the God who is very patient and generous with us. 2 Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

REFLECT
As we wait for the Day of the Lord, when He will make things right and just for us, we sometimes become weary and doubtful. It is impossible to understand God’s sense of time. Pastor Karmin’s experience left him in awe about how time seems to work on this side and on the other side. Instead of trying to figure everything out, he is thankful for God’s patience and the gift of life.
What are the things out of your control that you are trying to control?
How can we practice patience, gratitude, and hope as we wait on the Lord?
PRAYER FOR THE READER
Dear God, please bless Your children reading this devotional journal. Forgive us for the doubts, impatience, and a lack of faith as we wait on You. Please fill your children’s heart with the knowledge and the joy that it is good to wait on you. Please strengthen their faith in Your assurance that You see everything and You will make everything right in the end. In the meantime, please help your children to wisely use the time they have and make it good and right. Thank you for Your endless patience. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
