Worry

Week 52

Worry

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Philippians 4:6

Everybody has worries which is normal. But some of us worry so much that it affects our physical and spiritual health. My mother has a lot of worries; she can’t eat or sleep well. Having to raise four children in harsh circumstances in Burma as a widow, her life was full of hardship, sorrow, and tears. It is painful to see her struggle. Even now, she is having to hide in the jungle to get out of the way of the brutal Burmese military. This inevitably adds worries on top of worries. For once, I just want to see my mother feel peaceful. I worry a lot too, sometimes seemingly over nothing. While worry is a part of life, when we let worries overtake us, God may have lost His place in our life. Sometimes, I tell my mother, “Mom, God’s not dead yet.” By worrying, we cannot add a single hour to our life. Let’s remind one another that the God we worship is bigger than our problems and worries. In place of worries and complaints, let’s cultivate the habit of praying, praising, counting our blessings, and trusting in God’s provision.

God, we put our worries on You. Please lighten our burdens and teach us to trust you more.

In Jesus’s name, we pray. Amen.
