Week 26
Killing
Do not kill
Exodus 20:13 (CEB)
Since the Burmese military forcefully took over power two years ago, there has been killing almost every day. Things are now worse than ever. The military airplanes drop bombs, killing innocent elderly, children, women, and men. The news reports murders, attacks, and devastations daily to the point where I am afraid to watch or listen to the news. Due to hatred and resentment, two sides kill one another and the more they kill, the happier they get. They kill people like they kill birds and chickens. The world watches all the killings like they are watching a theater and does nothing. The entire country of Burma has been gripped by fear, anxiety, pain, and unimaginable losses. We read in Genesis 4:15 that Cain killed his brother, Abel, and he was driven from the land and became a restless wanderer. But, God did not want others to kill Cain so He put a mark on him and said anyone who killed Cain would suffer vengeance seven times over. Genesis 9:6 states, “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed.” We also read in Romans 12:19, “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.” We are in crushing pain. But we will never win by repaying evil with evil.
Gracious God, please save Burma. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
